What We Learned This Weekend...May 7/8, 2011

Critter Cove & Short Boarders
Birth - Kindergarten

God separated the waters and then gathered them together to make seas. Play a game of "God Made It" as you drive down the road. Take turns with your child calling out things you see that God made. How long can you go before someone gets stuck? It will take awhile because God made everything! End the game by asking your child, "Who made everything?" Then answer the question together by saying, "God made everything!"

Today’s Bible story has to be one of the top 10 Bible lessons of all time. It has it all—action; emotion; a hero; a wee, little villain; a showdown between the hero and villain; a happy ending; and, not least, good overcoming evil. A good story is about many things. One of the things Zacchaeus’ encounter with Jesus is about is what forgiveness does—it produces change. It changes both the forgiver and the “forgivee.” Isn’t it ironic that one of our reasons for not forgiving is that we want the other person to change first? However, we can’t produce that kind of change in someone; only God can. But He wants us to do our part, which is going ahead and offering forgiveness— deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay— just like Jesus did with Zacchaeus. Because when we forgive, it opens up all kinds of possibilities for the person being forgiven, as well as ourselves.
