What We Learned This Weekend...May 15/16, 2010

Early Childhood
Birth - Kindergarten

Basic Truth: God made me.
Key Question: What does God love about you?
Bottom Line: God loves everything about me!
Memory Verse: “I am wonderfully made." - Psalm 139:14 (NIV)

This past weekend we looked at Psalm 47:1, 86:11 Proverbs 4:11-12, 20-22, 20:11-12; Acts 9:36, 20:35. God made us to do many things. God made our ears so we can hear what He says. He made our eyes to see His Word. God made our hands and feet so we can help people. God made our mouths to praise Him.  Your child is learning that God made him and that God loves every- thing about him. As you bath your child’s arm, talk about how much God loves his arm. As you wash his hair, talk about how much God loves his hair. As you wash his little feet, talk about how much God loves his feet. And don’t forget that belly button! God loves it all! He loves EVERYTHING about your child.”

Virtue: Patience - Waiting until later for what you want now.
Memory Verse: “The end of a matter is better than it’s beginning. It’s better to be patient than proud.” - Ecclesiastes 7:8 (NIV)
Bible Story: The Fall of Jericho (Joshua 3:1-14; 6:1-20)
Bottom Line: Don't miss out because you think you can't wait.

This weekend's story is one of the most famous stories in the Bible—the battle of Jericho. The Israelites modeled patience by marching around the city walls for six days rather than acting on impulse. If they had rushed in and tried to break the walls down on their own, they would have lost the battle. But because they followed God’s instructions and waited, God blessed them.
