What We Learned This Weekend...May 1/2, 2010

Basic Truth: God made me.
Key Question: What does God love about you?
Bottom Line: God loves everything about me!
Memory Verse: “I am wonderfully made." - Psalm 139:14 (NIV)

This week's Bible lesson is found in Psalm 139:13-15a and Jeremiah 1:5. Everyone is special to God!  God made us all and we are all very special to Him.  He made everything about us just the way He wanted to.  Take time this week to sing "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" with your child.  Begin very slowly and with each round of the song speed up the tempo.  Each time you sing the song with your child ask them who made their head, shoulders, knees, and toes?  Who made their eyes, mouth, and nose?  God did!  And He did a wonderful job!

Virtue: Patience - Waiting until later for what you want now.
Memory Verse: “The end of a matter is better than it’s beginning. It’s better to be patient than proud.” - Ecclesiastes 7:8 (NIV)
Bible Story: Esau and the birthright (Genesis 25:24-24).
Bottom Line: If you don't wait, it could cost you.

This weekend in Beach House we looked at one of the most compelling stories as it relates to patience. It’s the story of Esau. If you’ve spent much time working with kids, you know that food is the economy of children. This is why there may be no greater example for patience than that of Esau sacrificing his birthright for a bowl of soup. Because Esau was impatient, because he was focused only on immediate gratification, he lost something that was much more valuable.
