What We Learned This Weekend...July 17/18, 2010

Early Childhood
Birth - Kindergarten

Basic Truth: God loves me.
Key Question: What does God want you to do?
Bottom Line: God wants me to do the right thing!
Memory Verse: “Learn to do what is right" - Isaiah 1:17 (NIrV)
Bible Story: Daniel’s diet (Daniel 1:1-16)

Daniel chooses to eat the good food he knows God wants him to eat rather than the not good food the king wants him to eat. We should do the right thing - what God teaches us to do.

Virtue: Service - Lending a hand to help someone else.
Memory Verse: “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not man." - Ephesians 6:7 (NIV)
Bible Story: Jesus washes the disciples feet (John 13:1-17)
Bottom Line: What in the world are you doing to put others first?

Think about the scene at the last supper when Jesus is seated with His disciples. Here He is—the Son of God, coequal with God the Father—and all of a sudden in the middle of the meal, He gets up and He begins to wash the feet of the disciples. When He finishes He looks at them and says, because I’ve done this for you, being who I am, shouldn’t you even more so do this for each other? He goes on to explain to them what it means to serve each other. This principle is the foundation to our everyday life. We want children to grow up and to understand what it means to serve others, to intentionally ask the question: “what in the world are you doing to put others first?” We want to teach children there are a lot of different ways to “wash someone’s feet.” You can give things away. You can share things. You can do things for others everyday to show them that you are putting them first.
