Beach House
(Grades 1 - 6)

Virtue: Peace - Proving that you care more about others than winning an argument.
Memory Verse: “So let us do all we can to live in peace.  And let us work hard to build each other up." - Romans 14:19 (NIV)
Bible Story: Jacob and Esau (Genesis 27:41-45; 32:1-21; 33:1-11)
Bottom Line: It’s better to let go than to get even.

This weekend we talked about why it’s important for someone to choose to forgive. A big part of pursuing peace is learning how to forgive. That’s why we are going to the story of Jacob and Esau. We aren’t focusing on Jacob stealing the birthright and the blessing. We are telling the story of what happened between the brothers many years down the road. If you remember, Esau promised to kill Jacob if he ever saw him again. So when Jacob is on his way back to meet Esau he’s nervous about his brother’s reaction. Esau must have understood the power of forgiveness because instead of killing Jacob, he ran to him and embraced him.
