Virtue: Friendship—spending time with someone you trust and enjoy.
Bible Story: Jesus appears to Thomas (John 20:24-31)
Bottom Line: A true friend will help you believe.
Memory Verse: "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." - Proverbs 17:17 (NIV)
This weekend we took a look at another scene in the New Testament following the resurrection of Jesus. In this story, one of Jesus’ twelve closest friends had questions, even doubts, about the resurrection. It’s the story of Thomas. Thomas is struggling with whether or not Jesus has really risen from the dead, but Jesus doesn’t chastise Thomas or get angry with Thomas for having doubts. Instead, Jesus shows up to help Thomas believe. Jesus shows Thomas the evidence that He really did keep His promise in the resurrection, that He really is alive, so that Thomas can be a believer. What we want to point out this week is that Jesus is the kind of friend that wants to be there for us, even when we have doubts, to help us believe and keep believing.
