What We Learned About This Weekend...May 14/15, 2011

Critter Cove and Short Boarders
Birth - Kindergarten

Genesis 1:9-13
God made dry land. He made vegetation begin to grow on the land. God made your child, from the top of his head, to the bottom of his feet. What better time to share with your child WHO made him than at bath time? As you wash your child's feet ask, "Who made your feet?" As you wash your child's hair ask, "Who made your hair?" Continue throughout bath time asking about each little special part. At the end of the bath ask your child, "Who made everything?" The answer together with, "God made everything!"

Beach House
Grades 1 - 6

Surely some dark thoughts swirled through Joseph’s mind when he realized the men standing before him, waiting to purchase grain, were his brothers. Come on, who would blame him? But despite what Joseph had been through, or maybe because of it, he had clung to God and His teachings all these years. When the opportunity presented itself, he really did have the upper hand, refusing to lower himself to the “get even” point. His choice—really, the state of his heart and mind—is remarkable when you think about it. So today, as you talk more about forgiveness—(1) deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay—and the role it played in Joseph’s life, spend some time there instead of rushing through all the information you need to give kids. (2) Help them understand that, even if Joseph had thought about getting even, God (being the generous, forgiving God that He is) wanted him to do the opposite. (3) And He wants us to do the opposite, too. (4) When we do, God may use it to do something really remarkable at just the right time and place, like He did with Joseph.
