What we learned about this Weekend...June 5/6, 2010

Early Childhood
Birth - Kindergarten

Basic Truth: God made me.
Key Question: Who can help you?
Bottom Line: God made people who help me!
Memory Verse: “Be kind and loving to each other." - Ephesians 4:32 (NCV)

This past weekend we looked at the story of Ruth in Ruth 1:1-19.  Naomi travels to Moab and Ruth became a part of her family. Even when she could stay in Moab, Ruth traveled back to Bethlehem with Naomi, helping her along the way. Meal time is a great time to show your child what a big helper he/she can be. Ask your child to help you set the table and prepare the food. Each time they complete a task tell them, "I'm so glad God made you to help me." Once the table is set and you are ready to eat make notice of what you have done together. Praise your child for a job well done!

Virtue: Responsibility - Showing that you can be trusted with what is expected of you.
Memory Verse: “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much." - Luke 16:10a (NIV)
Bible Story: Creation (Genesis 1:27-28).
Bottom Line: What in the world are you doing to take care of what God made?

We are going to begin the month at the very beginning—creation. When you think back to the beginning of the world there is a defining moment in the story when God leans down to mankind and reminds them that they are responsible for taking care of the planet. So the question we are going to ask this week is simply: “What in the world are you doing to take care of what God has made?” We want children to look around at the earth that God has given us and recognize that they have a responsibility to be guardians of His creation.
