What We Learned About This Weekend...June 19/20, 2010

Early Childhood
Birth - Kindergarten
Basic Truth: God made me.
Key Question: Who can help you?
Bottom Line: God made people who help me!
Memory Verse: “Be kind and loving to each other." - Ephesians 4:32 (NCV)

This past weekend we we look at 1 Samuel 18:1-4; 20. David and Jonathan are good friends. Jonathan helps David by letting him know it is not safe for him to stay.  This month, as you bathe your child, repeat the word help as of- ten as possible. “Let me help you run your bath water. Can I help you wash your hair? Let me help you rinse the soap off of you. I will help by getting a towel for you. Let me help you put on your clothes... I love helping you! I am so glad God made me to help you.”

Virtue: Responsibility - Showing that you can be trusted with what is expected of you.
Memory Verse: “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much." - Luke 16:10a (NIV)
Bible Story: Our words matter (Ephesians 4:29).
Bottom Line: What in the world are you doing to encourage others with your words?

We want children to start to understand their responsibility toward the people around them. We want to show them how they each have an ability to encourage and build others up. So this past weekend, we talked about a passage in the fourth chapter of Ephesians. This particular passage talks about the power of our words and how we are responsible for what we say. That’s why we are asking the question: "What in the world are you doing to encourage others?”
