What We Learned About This Weekend...February 5/6, 2011

Critter Cove and Short Boarders
Birth - Kindergarten

Luke 14:16-24
Jesus tells a story about a man who invited everyone to a great banquet. He told this story so people will know that He loves everyone. A play date with a good friend is the perfect time to practice loving others the way Jesus loves us. Invite a friend over for a play date. Encourage your child to share his toys and say nice words to his friend throught the play date. Once the play date is over, praise your child for being such a good friend. "You were a great friend today, just like Jesus is a great friend to you."

Grades 1 - 5

Often we associate kindness with docility and softness, but nothing could be further from the truth. Kindness is actually radical, muscular, and counterintuitive to our culture. This month, we’ll be focusing on kindness—showing others they are valuable by how you treat them. God created kindness. No one is kinder than God: no one has ever done more to show us how valuable we are than God has done. He values us more than anyone else can—even our parents. He sent Jesus, His Son, to SHOW us how valuable we are to Him. Jesus gave us the gold standard of kindness: Do to others what you want them to do to you. When we are kind to others, they notice—perhaps because kindness isn’t so common. It sets us apart and can lead to real changes in the hearts of others. This week help kids understand that when they do, say, or give kindly, they are showing God to others.
