Weekend Recap...January 8/9, 2011

Critter Cove and Short Boarders
(Birth - Kindergarten)

Luke 15:3-7
Jesus tells the parable about a shepherd who lost his sheep and cared enough to go and find it. God loves us even more than the shepherd loves his sheep. As you drive along, talk to your child about how God made him, and that makes him very special. As you're helping your child into the car, putting on his seatbelt, opening the door for him and everything else that goes with driving a preschooler, remind him that he's special to you and God.

Beach House
(Grades 1 - 6)

This month we’re focusing on determination, which is deciding it’s worth it to finish what you’ve started. Don’t you know those Israelites kicked themselves—repeatedly—for giving up and giving in to their fears about the Promised Land? They forgot to look back at what God had done for them, and they forgot to look ahead at the prize. They got stuck in the middle, convinced that going back was better than moving ahead. Thankfully, God never quits, never gives up, and always finishes what He starts. He doesn’t want us to give up either, because He doesn’t want us to miss out on the really good things He has planned for us. So today, focus on helping kids understand that if they quit, they could be giving up more than they bargained for. When we finish what we start, it makes life better for everyone. But if we give up, it could mess up things for others, too.
