Weekend Recap...December 11/12, 2010

Critter Cove and Short Boarders
(Birth - Kindergarten)

Luke 2:1-7
Joseph and Mary travel to Bethlehem. Jesus is born in a stable and Mary lays Him in a manger. As you drive down the road, talk about how Mary and Joseph had to travel down a long road to Bethlehem. As you pull up into your driveway, mention that Mary and Joseph didn't sleep in a house. God gave them a warm, safe barn to sleep in, and that is where Jesus was born.

Joy is finding a way to be happy, even when things don’t go your way. That phrase (don’t go your way) can cover a lot of ground—you can fill in that blank with many situations: when things feel out of control … when things don’t happen the way you expect them to … when what we plan is different from what God plans … when things seem impossible. Without a doubt, when Gabriel appeared to Mary, things felt out of her control and unexpected (to say the least). An impending pregnancy was surely not part of her plan for her immediate future. And becoming the mother of the Savior of the world—does that not seem impossible? Yet, “nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37, NIrV). God, the Creator of all good things, created joy as well, and He wants us to have it. And we can, when we remember to BELIEVE—to trust in Him to provide for us even when things seem impossible. Rarely does our faith in God shine through more than when we have joy despite our circumstances. Everyone, even those who don’t know God, is drawn to a person who is truly joyful. This week, help kids see that there is no problem or situation that is too big or complicated for their Creator to see them through.
