I wanted to take a moment to let you know about a service project we would like you and your family to take part in. At HDC we believe one of the key components to having a meaningful life is to find a meaningful role to help others. This doesn’t just start at adulthood. We believe your child has the potential to make a difference now. And we’d like to help you help them to help others. Here’s an overview of what we’re going to do:
Who is this service project for?
We want to help the kids in our city who don’t have enough school supplies get what they need to be successful in school. We want the kids at HDC to help their peers. The big idea is kids helping kids. Anyone in Preschool – Sixth Grade and their family can help.
What will we be doing?
Our goal is for every family to put together at least one back pack full of school supplies so that, together, we can provide help for ALL the kids at one of our elementary schools. Most schools get this in August, but by January their kids are out of supplies and need more.
Where will we be doing this?
At your home. We’ll give you a list of what supplies to get and you and your family can get them when it is most convenient for you. Once you’ve purchased them you can give them to your child’s leader on the weekend or bring them by the office during the week.
When will all this be taking place?
We’ll be taking donations from Saturday, January 12 – Sunday, February 24, 2013.
Why should our family do this?
People are more alive when their deeds help meet someone else’s needs. The happiest, healthiest, and most successful people I know are also the most loving and giving. The most miserable people I know are the most selfish. I want your kids to be like the former, not the latter. A BIG part of helping your kids be successful in life is helping them learn how to help others. This service project is one way we want to help you help them get there.
How can we get involved?
Download a supply list (see below), buy what’s on the list with your kids, do the short devotional activities with them one night, and drop the supplies off the next time you check your kids in on the weekend or bring them to the church office during the week. Just bring the supplies. We'll take care of the back packs.
I hope you’ll take some time in the next few days to talk about this with your family and prayerfully consider being a part of this project. If you have any questions please ask in the comment section below and we'll get back to you ASAP.
Thanks for allowing our Kids’ Ministry team to play a small part in God’s plan for your child’s life!
