We don’t stop! As teenagers we never know when to quit or slow down. Our lives are planned from sun up to sun down. If we sit still for any reason, we begin to feel unproductive and bored, and no one wants to be bored! This four-week series is a great reminder for students of today to “be still.” This series is one of the most practical series we’ve done. We spend some time defining what it means to find God as our refuge. There is a lesson on mediation and another deals with common fears students have in truly trusting the Lord with their lives.
Week 1 (April 26-27) – Life Happens. Refuge defined. Why do we use umbrellas in the midst of a storm when God desires to be our refuge? Let’s define what a refuge is and how we are to find God as our refuge.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
Week 2 (May 3-4) – Fear = Lack of Trust. There is no fear in God, so why would we rather stand in the storm instead of coming up underneath the refuge?
“Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” (Psalm 46:2-3)
Week 3 (May 10-11) – Be Still! What? When we trust Him as our refuge during the storm, peace comes. We rest and trust the Lord is handling the storm. So how do we truly find peace?
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10)
Week 4 (May 17-18) – He is with us. Believe It. Trust It. Allegiance is everything. When God is a priority in our lives everyday, finding Him as our refuge is easy. Is God your refuge in the good times of life and the bad?
“The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” (Psalm 46:11)
