February Weekend Series
February is always an entertaining month for Student Ministries! Students are much more engaged and interested when it comes to the sermons. This month we started a series called “Just a Kiss?” It’s three weekends of us talking about relationships, sex and marriage!. The first weekend the “The Choice”, discusses dating relationships and encourages students to focus on their relationship with the Lord and Godly friendships. If they MUST date: Focus on God first, makes sure your relationship lines up with Scripture, have strong physical barriers, answer to a parent or mentor and have strong accountability! The second week “The Pursuit”, challenges the students to run from lust and pursue the right path…purity. I Corinthians 6:18-20 “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” The goal is to let God control your mind.
For students who struggle with purity we encourage them with these practical steps:
-Identify what triggers their lust (time of day, location, TV, Internet). -Make a plan to flee (run from) those areas. -Then work the plan with strong accountability.
The last weekend talks about “The Goal”, which is marriage. I like to think of it as putting together a piece of furniture from IKEA. If I fail to follow the well-written illustrated instructions (sarcasm) in any way, I am bound to fail. There is only one right way to put it together. If you want to live Gods way, you have to know Gods plan so you can follow it.
This month is going to be full of great stories, Scripture, advice and discussions. We encouraged you to make sure your student doesn’t miss this month. We look forward to the conversations!
