This weekend, Pastor Tom wrapped up the focus on Meaningful Relationships. As he was talking, I was reminded of a thought I have been processing for a few months now.
The world will never encourage me to be more Godly.
When we think though the influences that speak into our life throughout each day, most likely, the vast majority of those voices aren't encouraging us to seek Christ. The world simply doesn't encourage that type of behavior. What I know I often fail to recognize, however, is that anytime a voice is speaking into me, I'm being influenced.
Proverbs 27:14 is a very well known passage, and I think it offers us some insight into humanity:
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
- Proverbs 27:14
This Proverb is pretty clear about the fact that our environment influences us, and that we are able to be influenced. Because of that, we need to make sure that what we are being shaped into is in line with what God has called us to be.
While knowing that the world will not shape us into who God has called us to be should not surprise us, it should cause us to be wise in what we allow to speak into our lives.
