VV Baptism Testimonies

Elizabeth Coddington

Before I knew Jesus I felt like something was missing in my life but I couldn't pin point it. Events, relationships, and life in general felt very "going through the motions" as opposed to purposeful. I was waiting for an "ah ha" moment to bring clarity to the chaos I saw around me. Being raised Catholic I knew of God but I did not have a relationship nor did my family.  I knew that I needed to be saved from a life of emptiness.

At the age of 18 I was invited to a full gospel church as a guest and really didn't know what to expect. There was a guest pastor that evening visiting from NYC and he lit up the room. It was not only his charisma that caught my attention but the fact that I felt like his message was directed toward every thought and feeling that I'd had about purpose in my life. To hear a complete stranger from a different state who knew nothing about me and had no idea I'd be there articulate the very things on my heart and mind was inspiring and I knew it was divine intervention. I can still remember his message and the humor, wit, and joy it instilled in me a good 20 years later!  That night, I asked Jesus into my heart and my world changed.

Twenty some years later life has purpose and meaning and is full of clarity, love, good deeds, and blessings. The way that confusion and chaos left my mind and allowed decision making to be made in light of Jesus has reshaped my world and I am grateful every day.

One of my favorite bible verses is from Proverbs and really sums up how I view God:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

 Proverbs 3:5-6NIV

The verse is so simple yet life changing. If we, as Christians, could trust in our inner voice (Holy Spirit), then the direction of our lives would move in His direction.
